I’m your host, Tony Mendoza — a Nashville-based personality and creator of Heart of the Gulch.
Tony was raised in Helotes, Texas, just outside of San Antonio, within walking distance of the legendary John T. Floore’s Country Store. Music carried straight into his backyard, where artists like Willie Nelson, George Strait, Cody Johnson, and generations of Texas Country became part of everyday life.
Alongside country music, his Hispanic heritage shaped him just as deeply.
South Texas legends like Selena, Emilio Navaira, Freddy Fender, and the Texas Tornados were constant influences, creating a mix of country and Tejano Music that continues to shape the stories and artists he gravitates toward today.
After graduating from Texas A&M University, Tony relocated to Nashville, deepening his appreciation for country music’s traditional and outlaw roots. In 2023, he launched Heart of the Gulch, an artist-focused interview platform built around authentic storytelling and meaningful conversations.

Tony is especially passionate about supporting women in country music and amplifying Hispanic Voices within the genre. Through Heart of the Gulch, he hopes to create a platform where different backgrounds, cultures, and stories have a place in country music.

My Approach
What started as a passion project has grown into something we never could have imagined.
From interviewing hundreds of musicians and covering CMA Fest and Country Radio Seminar to opportunities surrounding the Grand Ole Opry, Heart of the Gulch has continued to find its place in Nashville’s music community. Along the way, we’ve worked with national brands, hosted live events, and brought Heart of the Gulch to television audiences.
