Welcome to Heart of the Gulch, a Nashville-based interview show and country music platform featuring artists, singer-songwriters and personalities shaping music and entertainment. Host and creator Tony Mendoza welcomes Alicia Blue for a stripped-down studio performance of “Run Me Ragged” from her debut album, Country Desire.
Recorded inside the Heart of the Gulch studio in Nashville, the performance strips away the full production of the album and gives Alicia’s voice, guitar and songwriting room to lead.
“Run Me Ragged” and Country Desire
Nashville singer-songwriter Alicia Blue performs “Run Me Ragged” from her debut album Country Desire.
“Run Me Ragged” appears on Alicia Blue’s 12-song debut album, Country Desire, produced by four-time GRAMMY Award-winning producer Shooter Jennings at Sunset Sound in Hollywood.
During her full Heart of the Gulch interview, Alicia explains how acoustic demos eventually found their way to Jennings and how his approach wasn't about creating a sound for her. Instead, Shooter encouraged Alicia to lean further into the artist and songwriter she already was.

That identity pulls from a wide musical history. Alicia discusses growing up between Southern California and South Texas, hearing artists including Patsy Cline and Linda Ronstadt, her admiration for Waylon Jennings and Dolly Parton, and eventually finding the country voice she had once suppressed while trying to fit into modern folk music.
“Run Me Ragged” offers another chance to hear that voice without anything getting in the way.
